The earlier episodes unfortunately fell down on audio quality slightly but as the shows continue the quality improves so I recommend you persevere with the back catalogue to understand fully the methodology discussed. (Keep a notebook handy ? you will get ideas!)

There are so many changes in the world of technology going on these days that? when you hear the term ?business innovation,? I wouldn?t be surprised if you think of complex, technological breakthroughs.? We go from 2G to 3G to 4G and beyond,? a small device replaces our laptops for everyday use, we can now be-?friend? the multitudes, thanks to Facebook. ( How did we ever do without Google and Wikipedia? ) Then there are all the innovations relating to nanotechnology and biotechnology.? But of course there are many different examples of business innovation, from the technologically sophisticated to the very simple.

It is therefore not surprising that Nokia recently announced the launch of its new ?N9? phone, which I see as a stop-gap measure in anticipation of their line of Microsoft-based smartphones.?? According to Nokia?s head of design, the N9 (shown in the photo on the above right)? is ?optimized for one-hand use.?? As explained in the NY Times article, this means the it ?allows users to switch between applications with a thumb, avoiding the need to return to a main menu screen or press a button, something required on both the iPhone and the Android phones.??? So the innovating feature of the N9 has nothing to do with uploading speed, reliability of voice and data transmission, storage capacity, size, clarity of screen etc. etc.? It simply allows people to use it fully with one hand.
It will be interesting to see how much Nokia can regain in lost market share with this new model.?? The downside to simple business innovation is that it is relatively easy to copy if no patents are involved. Rest assured that Apple?s designers are hard at work developing an answer to this move by Nokia.? Maybe they already have one.?
